Screener Configuration

Learn how to configure your screener's basic settings in the screener form.

Basic Settings

Screener Name

Give your screener a descriptive name:

✅ Good: "RSI Oversold + Volume Spike"
✅ Good: "Breakout Above 50 SMA"
❌ Bad: "Screener 1"

Description (Optional)

Add a brief summary of what this screener looks for. This helps you remember the purpose when managing multiple screeners.

Universe Selection

Index or Basket

Choose which stocks to scan:

OptionDescription
S&P 500Large-cap US stocks (~500 stocks)
NASDAQ 100Top 100 NASDAQ-listed stocks
Dow JonesDow Jones Industrial Average (30 stocks)
AllAll available stocks
SectorFilter by market sector (see below)
Custom (Basket)Use your own custom basket

Sector Selection:

When you choose "Sector" as the universe, a second dropdown appears where you select one of 11 sectors:

Sector
Technology
Healthcare
Financial
Energy
Industrials
Consumer Cyclical
Consumer Defensive
Basic Materials
Communication Services
Utilities
Real Estate

Stocks are resolved dynamically based on SIC industry codes — the sector list stays current as companies are reclassified.

Custom Baskets:

  • Select "Custom (Basket)" to use your own ticker list
  • Choose from baskets you've created in the Baskets page
  • If no baskets exist, create one first

Time Frame

Choose the chart timeframe for indicator calculations:

TimeframeBest For
dailyPosition trading, swing trading
5 minsScalping, high-frequency signals
10 minsIntraday trading
15 minsIntraday swing trades
30 minsShort-term positions
1 hourIntraday to multi-day trades

Rank & Filter Results

You can rank screener results by any indicator and optionally limit to the top N stocks:

SettingDescription
Rank byAn indicator operand to sort results by (e.g., ASSET_STOCK_TECH_RSI_C_14)
Sort directionHighest first (descending) or Lowest first (ascending)
Top NOnly return the top N results after ranking (leave blank for all)

Example: Screen the S&P 500 for RSI oversold stocks, ranked by RSI ascending (most oversold first), top 10 only.

This is useful for rotation-style screeners where you want the "best" N stocks by a specific metric.

Pre-Market & Post-Market Data

You can include extended-hours data in your screener:

  • Include pre-market — use price/volume data from 4:00 AM – 9:30 AM ET
  • Include post-market — use price/volume data from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET

This is useful for catching gap-ups, early momentum, or after-hours reactions to earnings.

Query Definition

Visual Condition Builder

Build conditions without writing DSL by hand. The visual builder lets you:

  1. Select an indicator from a dropdown (RSI, SMA, MACD, etc.)
  2. Choose an operator (>, <, ==, etc.)
  3. Set a value or select another indicator to compare against
  4. Combine conditions with AND/OR

The visual builder generates the DSL query automatically. You can switch between visual and manual mode at any time.

AI Query Assistant

Describe what you want to find in plain English:

Example:

"Find stocks whose rate of change in past 125 days is more than 30"

Click Generate Query to convert your description into a screener query.

Manual Query

You can also write or edit the query directly in the Query field. The query uses a domain-specific language (DSL) with technical indicators and conditions.

Example:

ASSET_STOCK_TECH_ROC_C_125 > 30

See DSL Reference for available indicators and syntax.
